Queen Elizabeth Kicks the Bucket at 96
Buckingham Palace has announced that the Queen has died at the age of 96.
"The Queen died peacefully this afternoon at Balmoral; the King and Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and return to London tomorrow," said Buckingham Palace.
Queen Elizabeth II was the world's oldest head of state and the longest-reigning monarch in British history.
Following the Queen's death, Charles, the former Prince of Wales, became King of the United Kingdom and 14 Commonwealth realms.
No official details about what will happen in the coming days have been released, but it is expected that the Queen will be given a full state funeral, as is customary when a monarch dies.
This afternoon, the Queen died peacefully at Balmoral.The King and Queen Consort will spend the evening at Balmoral before returning to London tomorrow.
